Superintendent - Daniel Rogers
Daniel is a native of Southern Rhode Island, he was first introduced into the golf course industry through a summer job as a grounds crew staff member during the construction of the Fenner Hill Golf Club in Hopkinton, RI. This experience led Daniel to pursue an education in Turfgrass Management at the State University of New York at Cobleskill.
Upon completion of his Bachelor’s Degree in Plant and Soil Science, he was offered an Assistant Superintendent position on the Black Course at Bethpage State Park. After a short time as assistant superintendent he was offered the Superintendent position on the Black Course at Bethpage State Park. This extraordinary opportunity demanded a dedication to sustaining conditions consistent with U.S Open playing expectations throughout the season. In addition to this, Daniel assisted in the maintenance of the facility’s four other golf courses The Red, Yellow, Blue, Green, and an intensely used polo/soccer field, along with 2 softball fields. Daniel has dedicated himself and his career to the game of golf, through golf course management, and has been serving as superintendent of New London Country Club for five seasons.
Prior to Daniel’s arrival at New London Country Club the golf course had recently undergone an extensive renovation; unfortunately, course conditions did not meet expectations. Daniel was hired to make dramatic improvements to course conditions immediately. New London Country Club is a relatively flat, coastal sea side course, with poor drainage from heavy clay soils. Excessive thatch accumulation had become a major problem in achieving desired conditions. Through the programs and practices Daniel has implemented the course conditions are now a product of the highest quality, all accomplished while adhering to a modest maintenance budget. Through sound agronomic planning, the incorporation of an integrated pest management program and wholehearted dedication to fiscal and environmental responsibility, Daniel and his team have far exceeded the expectations of our members and guests.
